Presidio Heights

Jon at the Presidio Golf Course

After I dropped Jon off at the Presidio Golf Course, I walked through Presidio Heights for 2.72 miles. There are some pretty nice digs in this neighborhood!

The fog was so thick today it was raining.

The Windmill!

The Love Birds, Jon and Rachele, at the Windmill

Jon, Rachele and I walked through Golden Gate Park today to check out the North Dutch Windmill near the ocean. This windmill was originally constructed in 1902, and restored in the early 1980's. The original intent of the Windmill was to pump water throughout the park (20,000 gallons per hour), but it became obsolete and fell into disrepair. In 1966, a committee was formed to pursue the restoration of the windmill, which was completed in 1981. The windmill is a San Francisco landmark (#147).

The San Francisco Columbarium!

The San Francisco Columbarium

I visited the San Francisco Columbarium today, which is a landmark (#209) here in the city. A columbarium is a vault with niches for urns containing ashes of the dead. It's located at the end of Lorraine Ave, which is a hidden cul-de-sac off Anza Avenue. I actually never knew what this building was until today - but now that I know, I'm sure I'll be back - It's very cool.

Supposedly, the remains of Harvey Milk, Chet Helms and many other San Francisco luminaries are located here. The Columbarium was built in 1898, and was originally surrounded by a 167 acre cemetery and crematorium. Changes in San Francisco law forced the removal of the cemetary (to Colma) in the 1920's and 30's, and the Columbarium subsequently fell into disrepair as it passed from one organization to another over the years. In 1980 it was obtained by the Neptune Society and the process of restoration was begun. In 1996, the building was added to the register of San Francisco landmarks.

The Loop

Rachele

Rachele and I walked our loop today through the Presidio. As usual, it was foggy as hell. I think it's been over a week since I've seen the sun. I'm feeling deprived!

We had a late lunch at Pho Clement on Geary after our walk.

The Richmond in the Morning

Orange Cat checking out the recycling
I got out of the house early this morning and walked across the Richmond on 4th and 5th Streets. There's definitely a different vibe in the early morning - Everyone is hustling to get to work with stressed out expressions on their faces. (That is, everyone except me) The fog was so dense this morning, it was misting

Robin William's House!

540 El Camino Del Mar - Robin William's House
Jon, Rachele and I headed over to Seacliff today, specifically to look at Robin William's house. We felt like stalkers, but I'm hoping he didn't mind (We didn't see him). He'd probably stalk us if we were rich and famous!
We had Jon's I-phone with the GPS tracker, so I know we did 4.4 miles. Cold, miserable and foggy today!

Stern Grove!

Jon at Stern Grove
Jon and I went over to Stern Grove today and saw a free Rickie Lee Jones show. Rickie was great, but the big attraction for me was watching the wacky crowd. We brought some sandwiches and beer and had lunch in style.
Today Jerry Garcia would have been 68. Happy Jerry Day everybody!
