Today Jon and I walked over to Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park to check out Comedy Day, a free, annual event featuring over 20 comics, including Robin Williams. The fog was so dense, it was drizzling for most of the afternoon, but we still laughed and had a good time. It felt like one of those only-in-San Francisco type events, with lots of liberal politics and off the wall humor.

The Sharon Building (SF Landmark #124) was built in 1887 with funds bequeathed to the city by William Sharon, "The King of the Comstock", an important figure in the early history of San Francisco. The Sharon Building together with the Carousel and the adjacent children's playground is the first playground facility built in a public park in the United States. The building is an an example of Victorian Romanesque architecture.

Jim Jones!

Well yesterday I walked by Charles Manson's one-time abode, so today I decided it was Jim Jones turn. Apparently, he lived at 1660 Page St., pre-People's Temple, just 2 and 1/2 blocks away from where Charles Manson lived. I wonder if Jim and Charles ever ran into each other?

I've been on hiatus for a while with this blog, as Rachele and I went on an impromptu Tahoe trip (see above), but the whole time I was gone, I was plotting streets and new routes. I guess you could say I'm somewhat obsessed!

Today I walked through Laurel Heights, and then over to Ashbury Heights and the Haight. In the Haight, I took pictures of Charles Manson's one-time residence on Cole Street, and wondered if he recruited his followers from the neighborhood - The garage he lived in is just a half block away from a busy section of Haight Street. It seems weird to think of a psychopath wandering around our beloved, funky Haight Street neighborhood.

In Laurel Heights, I walked by the Roos House, at 3500 Jackson St. (at the corner of Locust and Jackson). Built in 1909 by architect Bernard Maybeck, the Roos House is a San Francisco landmark (#56). The house is a two story English stucco and half-timber structure, and has Gothic influences.

I also walked by 115 Walnut Street, a B&B that my parents frequented a few years ago.

In honor of Chloe's 3rd birthday, Ruth, Debbie and I walked the dogs over to North Lake in Golden Gate Park, across from 43rd Ave. Today was "Power to the Peaceful", also in the Park, so we saw lots of blissed out hippies wandering around, along with the ducks and squirrels.
