Golden Gate Park

Jon Making Friends

Jon and I walked 5.35 miles through Golden Gate Park today. We walked around Stow Lake, Past the Japanese Tea Garden, the de Young Museum, the Academy of Science and the Lawn Bowling Clubhouse and Greens.

The Francis Scott Key Monument (SF Landmark #96), near the de Young, was built in 1888. Although this was 74 years after Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner", it was not until 1931 that Congress adopted the melody and lyrics as the official national anthem. The monument was damaged in 1906 and, after repairs, it was moved to another location in the park. In 1967, it was again restored, and relocated to the site it currently occupies.
