Rachele at Sutro BathsRachele and I walked down to the Sutro Bath ruins today and poked around, until Rachele got the word that she had to be at work early, so we hightailed it back. Another beautiful day in the city!
Sutro Baths opened March 14, 1896, as an extravagant public bathhouse envisioned and developed by the eccentric one-time mayor of San Francisco, Adolph Sutro. After working its way through many incarnations (Playland, 1960's ice rink, etc.), it burned down in 1966. In 1980, the property was sold to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
